On the right-hand gatepost of the Stadhouderkade- entrance of the Vondelpark stands a large sandstone statue, representing the
Town’s Patroness, the historical personification of the City of Amsterdam. It showed that it had been there since 1883.
The wet Autumn months as we know so well in The Netherlands, followed by frosty winters, had left their traces.
At first, a number of parts of the old statue had to be reconstructed before the realisation of the new statue could start.
It was supposed to become a self-confident and independent woman and I think it came out well. I took great pleasure in making it.
